This place suits me perfectly with free wi-fi in rooms, flat-screen TV, and an electric kettle. The staff helped me find my lost bracelet during my first stay, which I really appreciated. I highly recommend it for a holiday.

Excellent proximity to the tram and bus stops makes travel effortless. Only a two-minute stroll from the tram station means direct access to the airport.
The shower pressure felt lackluster, making a refreshing rinse hard to achieve. adjusting the temperature was a gamble. My room had a window that didn’t shut properly, letting in a significant chill and noise. The bathroom amenities fell short—no shampoo except a small bar of soap, and the overall cleanliness left something to be desired, with marks on walls that suggested neglect. Some guests might not mind the moderately uncomfortable mattresses, but I found them less than ideal for a restful night's sleep. Housekeeping was inconsistent, one day they changed the sheets but failed to replace the used cups. For the price, I expected more overall polish and attention to detail, especially in such a popular area.

Great location and friendly staff
The hotel is perfectly located just across from Haymarket Station, making it extremely convenient for getting around Edinburgh. The staff were friendly and provided great recommendations for nearby eateries, enhancing my stay significantly. the uncomfortable mattress detracted from an otherwise pleasant experience.

The Guards offers a convenient and accessible location next to Haymarket station, making it easy to travel around the city. I appreciated the cleanliness of the bedding, sink, and shower, which enhanced my comfort during the stay. A friendly and helpful staff member at the reception made my check-in process smooth and efficient.
The room's condition was disappointing, especially the uncomfortable mattress.

Location's outstanding, right across from the tram and train stations—perfect for hopping around the city. Charming old-world vibe, really feels like you’re stepping back in time, which adds to the overall character.
A few hiccups here and there, particularly with room comfort—some mattresses were thin and those springs really loved making themselves known. Heating was a bit of a struggle, leaving some rooms chilly at night, and the lack of soundproofing made the early tram bells a wake-up call I didn't sign up for. water pressure in the shower? More like a gentle drizzle than a proper wash. Oh, and the absence of on-site dining is a bit of a letdown—you’ve got to venture out for breakfast. While that might not bother everyone, it’s worth thinking about if you’re looking for a more comprehensive hotel experience.

Just a top selection for a flying visit in Edinburgh with all in all brilliant value for money. The room was spacious with high ceilings and offered a comfortable place to rest. If you arrive late, just remember the reception closes at 10 pm.

Not the Best, an Opportunity for Improvement
Our stay was unexpectedly disappointing. While the location offered quick tram access to the city, the cleanliness left much to be desired. We found drains clogged and amenities that needed serious attention. An added café nearby served excellent coffee, a much-needed perk after our experience. Consider bringing your own toiletries.

The Guards in Edinburgh had a great location, just a short walk from Haymarket Train Station and within easy reach of local attractions. I found the room spacious enough, and the provided amenities like flat-screen TV and electric kettle were handy. the overall condition of the hotel was disappointing. The carpets felt dirty, and the room showed signs of wear and age. the bathroom definitely needed better maintenance. The noise from outside was annoying at times, especially at night, making it hard to sleep. While the staff seemed friendly when present, I noticed limited availability at the reception. I also struggled with the hot water during my shower, which was quite frustrating. For a budget hotel, it served its purpose, but I wished for a more comfortable and well-maintained stay.
